NEUTRALITY ACT
RESOLUTION FOR REPEAL MOVED IN THE AMERICAN SENATE. CONFLICT WITH FREEDOM OF SEAS POLICY. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) WASHINGTON, September 25. A resolution for the repeal of the Neutrality Act. which prohibits the arming’ of American merchantmen and prevents their entrance into combat zones, was introduced in the Senate by Senator K. McKellar (Democrat. Tentessee), who said the Act was in direct conflict with the freedom of the seas policy and should be repealed outright. PRESIDENT’S VIEW AMENDMENT FAVOURED. RATHER THAN REPEAL. LONDON. September 26. Washington reports state that the Administration has decided not to support the move in the Senate for the outright repeal of the Neutrality Act. President Roosevelt will probably recommend next week amendments to the Act to permit the arming of merchantmen and their entry into combat zones and belligerent, ports.
