WAIRARAPA CENTRE ANNUAL MEETING AT GREYTOWN BOOTH CUP COMPETITION TO CONTINUE. ("Times-Age” Special.) The thirty-second annual meeting of the Wairarapa Bowling Centre was held at Greytown last night. The president (Mr G. Hayne) occupied the chair and the following delegates were present:—-Masterton, Messrs G. Hayne, J. F. Roberts, A. Stubbings; Park, Messrs H. Smith, E. J .Bourke, C. A. Leigh; Carterton, Messrs W. F. Stent, C. Barber, Barr; Greytown, Messrs N. McLeod, G. Burns, H. G. Carter; Featherston. Messrs H. Rolls, H. R. Bloxham, H. McNamara; Martinborough, Messrs W. Knell, A. George, H. Madsen. Mr Hayne extended a hearty welcome to the delegates and expressed the hope that the coming season would be a happy one. The delegates stood in silence for a few moments out of respect to members of the Centre who had died during the year. The report, as previously published, was adopted. The balance sheet disclosed a slight increase in the credit balance. The patriotic effort resulted in the sum of £72 Ils being raised and the New Year tournament showed a credit balance of £2 13s 2d.

The president presented the Booth Cup to the Martinborough delegates and congratulated them on their win. The Shield was awarded jointly to Martinborough and Featherston, each club Io hold it for 6 months.

Certificates were presented as follows:—Champion singles, W. Christian, Masterton; champion pairs, A. Thompson and F. Harrington, Carterton; champion four, Messrs W. Kilgour, J. Kiernan, F. C. Bunny, and N. McLeod, Greytown; New Year tournament, Messrs G. Hughan, T. Underhill, A. C. Tucker, and G. W. Hart, Carterton.

The election of officers resulted as follows; —President, Mr G. Hayne (reelected); vice-president, the Rev. W. F. Stent; hen. secretary, Mr H. Smith; executive, Messrs G. Hayne, W. F. Stent, and H. Smith auditor, Mr F. Roberts.

It was notified that bowls would be stamped at Wellington after November I. Members taking part in the New Zealand tournament would require to have their bowls stamped. Mr Roberts congratulated the secretary on the way the accounts had been kept. It was decided to donate the sum of £1 Is towards the expenses of the deputation which was working in the interests of the minor centre. This amount will be forwarded to the Manawatu Centre.

The following days were allotted for Centre games: —Featherston, Boxing Day; Greytown, Anniversary Day; Martinborough, Good Friday. The New Year tournament is to be held on the same lines as last year. The Centre decided to present winners of championships with medals and bars. Certificates will not be framed in future.

In moving that the games for the Booth Cup and Shield be abandoned, Mr Roberts stated that the Masterton Club had instructed him to move in that direction. A Park delegate seconded the resolution.

Mr N. S. McLeod moved that the Booth Cup competitions be carried on. This was supported by Carterton delegates. Mr Stent said that no special licence for benzine for a bowling trip should be asked for. The Martinborough delegates stated they were instructed to support the continuation of the competitions.

On a vote being taken the amendment was' carried, providing benzine were available. One Shield team will play under the same rules as last year.

Mr McLeod moved that the pairs competition be played on two-life system and 3 bowls. The motion was carried.

The singles conditions are to be the same as last year, each player will play the other. The finalists in each club must be found a week before the Centre championships. The question of playing challenge games in the dark was raised. If there is a possibility of a game having to be finished in poor light the skips will decide on a time limit for the game,. as laid down by the Dominion Bowling rules.

A grant of £3 3s was voted the secretary. The delegates expressed their appreciation of his splendid work during the past year. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the Working Men’s Club for the use of the meeting room. A vote of thanks to the chairman closed the meeting.
