The Duke of Windsor discussed with Mr Cordell Hull the international situation. Afterwards, he was surrounded by pressmen at an impromptu Press conference. When asked by .a reporter whether he was confident that Britain would win the war, the Duke replied: “Absolutely.” The Duchess of Windsor waited in a car. wearing a Wallis blue dress, a . Juliet cap and a nose-veil. State Department employees cheered as the Duke returned to his car and the couple drove off to make a formal call on President Roosevelt.
