SHORTAGE IN PROSPECT
SUPPLY OF ORANGES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. “The Government anticipates some difficulty in securing adequate supplies of oranges for the local market during the next few weeks,” said the Minister of Marketing, Mr J. G. Barclay, in a statement today. “The season for Island oranges was now over,” he said, “and the New Zealand market will be entirely dependent on Australian supplies. Difficulties arose in this connection with regard to shipping and restriction of unloading points in the Dominion, which necessitated the transfer of the fruit over long distances. Further, the Jamaican market has been eliminated, due to the war. However, the Internal Marketing Department will endeavour, as far as is humanly possible, to ensure that the available supplies are spread as equitably as possible throughout the Dominion.”
