SPLENDID EXAMPLE
SET BY NEW ZEALAND AIRMEN SERVICE IN FLYING-DO ATS. A WARDED DISTINGUISHED FLYING CROSS. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.35 a.m.) LONDON. September 25. Acting Flight Lieutenant Thomas Patrick Gibson has been awarded the D.F.C, He was bo-n in Christchurch in 1913 and his father lives in Invercargill. The citation states that Flight Lieutenant Gibson has completed over one thousand hours of operational flying as the pilot of a Sunderland flyingboat. He is a wholly reliable pilot, whose steadiness and ability have inspired the confidence of his crew. He always has shown great eagerness to undertake any operational task allotted to him, in the North Atlantic or elsewhere and has frequently carried out patrols under weather conditions which would have deterred many men. After August, 1940. Flight Lieutenant Gibson acted as captain and several times as a flight commander and always set a splendid example.
