USE OF HUGE FORMATIONS ;n battle in north HUNAN. SUCCESSFUL OPERATIONS REPORTED. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) CHUNGKING, September 24. The Chinese Air Force has hurled huge formations of planes into a big battle in the north of Hunan Province. The “Central Daily News” says that Chinese aviators attacked Japanese planes, bombed a Japanese gunboat, and returned to their base without loss. It is estimated that at least 100.000 Japanese and a similar number of Chinese arc fighting in Hunan. A severe battle is raging along the entire north Hunan front. Four large Japanese detachments crossed the Milo River, but a southward drive into Hunan Province is being strongly resisted. The Japanese have also begun a southward drive in Southern Hupeh Province, and a battle is going on near the border of Kiangsi Province.
