Mr H. W. Oliver, who has been manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Akaroa for 12 years, will retire shortly. His successor is Mr Bryant, Waipukurau. Major B. H. Pringle (Masterton) who has been commandant at the Foxton Military Camp, has been transferred to the N.Z.E.F., and is now stationed at Waiouru. Major A. E. Cockerill, D. 5.0., who recently returned from Egypt, has been appointed to the senior staff of the new command and staff school which has been established at Waiouru. Mr A. B. Gibbons, Wellington, was appointed president of the New Zealand Motor Trade Federation, and Mr H. Anderson, Wellington, vice-president, at the annual meeting of the federation in Wellington yesterday. Official word has been received in Masterton by relatives that Private David Thomas O’Connor, who had been previously reported as missing, is now a prisoner of war. Private O’Connor was formerly a well-known Wairarapa representative footballer. A visit was paid yesterday by Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., to the Whatman Children's Home. Mr Lawry, who takes a keen interest in the children of the home, was conducted on his inspection of the institution by Major Victor Dick and Mrs Dick, manager and manageress of the home. The funeral of the late Mr C. H. Gracie took place in Masterton yesterday, the service at the Chapel of Hyde’s Funeral Service Ltd. and that at the graveside being conducted by the Rev. H. S. Kings. Among the wreaths was one from the leaders and senior girls of the Methodist Bible Class. The pall-bearers were Messrs G. Dawson Senr., G. Dawson Junr., W. Gilliland and F. Knowles. The following executive was elected! at the conference of the secretaries’ branch of the Electric Power Boards and Supply Authorities’ Association:— Messrs G. E. Fowler (Central Hawke’s Bay), G. Brown (Wairarapa), K. W. Eglinton (Manawa tu-Oroua), N. M. Speer (Auckland), L. W. Potter (Otago), j C. Cassels (Opunake), J. Denford (Christchurch City Council); auditor, Mr T. H. Pickard (Dannevirke).
