Man Found Hanging. On Wednesday afternoon the body of Kitchener Pilkington, aged 26, proprietor of the Te Aroha Cycle Depot, was found hanging from a rafter in an outbuilding. Rise in Price of Petrol. An increase of one penny a gallon in the price of petrol, to operate irom today. is provided for in the Motor Spirits Prices District Regulations, 1941, Amendment No. 2, gazetted last night. It is understood that the increase is to cover higher overseas costs and shipping freights. The price in the main centres, therefore, goes up from 2s 61d a gallon to 2s 71 d. Y.M.C.A. Card Party. There was a large attendance at the card party held last evening in the Y.M.C.A. lounge and conducted by the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Y.M.C.A.. Some very interesting games took place and a pleasant time was spent. The successful players were Mrs W. Cherry and Mr F. Griffiths. The ladies of the Auxiliary dispensed supper. Hospital Dance. The indoor staff of the Masterton Hospital will hold a dance in the Masonic Hall, Masterton, tomorrow night in aid of the parcel fund for members on overseas service. Two members of the staff have already been killed in action. The music will be supplied by Mr J. Barnes’s Orchestra. Novelty dances will be held and special supper arrangements will be made. Bible Society. The annual meeting of the Masterton branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society will be held in the St. Matthew’s Parish Hall at 2.30 p.m. on Monday next. The Rev. David Calder, 8.A., Dominion Secretary, will address the meeting which will be presided over by the Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich. All interested are cordially invited to attend. Sale of Purebred Jerseys. At a sale of purebred Jerseys held at Hamilton recently, Mr J. Jameson, of Masterton, sold Tuhitarata Oxford Knight for 115gns., Tuhitarata Forward Leigh for 65gns., and Tuhitarata Sensation for 60gns. At the Show held prior to the sale, Mr Jameson’s Tuhitarata Forward Leigh was awarded the two-year-old championship. Anglo-American Co-operation. The first anniversary of the establishment of the New Zealand section of the British-American Co-operation Movement was celebrated in Wellington yesterday by a luncheon attended by representatives of the two countries, at which the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, who is patron of the New Zealand section, gave an address on his recent tour abroad. The Union Jack and the Stars and Stripes were displayed behind the main table and also the banner of the movement.
