COUNTY AFFAIRS

WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNTY MONTHLY MEETING AT CARTERTON. RATES FOR CURRENT YEAR LEVIED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa South County Council was held at Carterton this morning, Cr F. Court presiding. There were also present Crs M. McGregor, A. McGregor, C. A. Cameron, L. S. Gallon, R. Rayner, Geo. Allen, A. E. Reid and the County Clerk, Mr Beaven. An apology for absence was received from Cr J. Strang. The treasurer reported a credit balance at the Bank of £4807 18s 4d. Revenue received from various sources since the last meeting of the council amounted to £2677 12s lOd. Accounts passed for payment totalled £2553 7s 7d. The Carrington water-race and Taratahi water-race reports, submitted by the overseer, Mr H. J. McKenzie, were read and adopted. The traffic officer, Mr Nicholson, reported in connection with the motor traffic during the month and said warnings had been given to several motorists for breaches of the Act. Mr Truman wrote notifying that he had relinquished his duties as health officer as he was taking up an appointment as engineer to the Dannevirke Borough Council. He thanked the council for the consideration given to him during his term of office and asked that the same good feelings that existed between the council and himself would be extended to his successor, Mr Pomare. It was resolved that a letter of congratulation be forwarded to Mr Truman upon his new appointment. It was resolved that the rates for the current year, as advertised in the “Times-Age,” be levied. Cr Court was granted permission to retire in order to enable him to be present at the official welcome at Masterton to the Governor and Ladv Newall. Cr M. McGregor was voted to the chair for the remainder of the meeting.
