The death has occurred in Dannevirke of Mr Keeson Donald Stevens, o prominent stock buyer in Southern Hawke’s Bay, at the age of 59 years. Mr Anderson Tyrer will shortly arrive in New Zealand, and, together with Dr. Lyon, will complete the examinations in connection with the Trinity College of Music, London, in the North Island. Mr G. A. Ammundsen, secretary of the Wanganui-Rangitikei Electric Power Board, was elected president of the secretaries’ branch of the Electric Power Boards and Supply Authorities’ Association at its conference in Wellington yesterday. Mr W. S. McClymont, secretary of the Grey Electric Power Board, was elected secretary. The death occurred at Masterton yesterday of Mr Charles Hugh Grade, at the age of 55 years. The late Mr Gracie was born at Hamilton, and came to Masterton from Christchurch three years ago. Fie had been in indifferent health for some time. He leaves a widow, four sons and four daughters. One son is serving overseas -with the New Zealand Forces. The King has appointed Mr Winston Churchill to be Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports in place of the late Lord Willingdon. a British official wireless message reports. Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports is an honorary and historic office dating from the time when the five ports on the south-east coast were of great importance to British defence. The selection of Mr F. A. Carter, formerly of Rotorua, now a resident of Paeroa, as the official candidate for the National Party in the Thames electorate, was announced at a meeting of 100 delegates from all parts of the constituency. Mr Carter is organiser for the Auckland Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union. Mr J. Thorn (Government) is the present holder of the Thames seat. Approval of the nomination has been received. At the annual conference of the New Zealand Retail Motor Trade Association, held in Wellington yesterday, the election of officers resulted as follows:— President, Mr H. Alder (Auckland); retiring president, Mr L.N. Montgomery (Nelson); secretary-treasurer, Mr C. R. Edmond; auditor, Mr E. B. Jennings; apprenticeship committee, Messrs L. C. A Byers R. Mortlock, F. Reynolds, G. Bull, H. Alder. T. Taylor, M. Wall; used car committee, Messrs Nimon, Rickard. Mortlock, Mantell, Craig, Ingram. Tench; board of examiners and classification committee, Messrs Mortlock, Montgomery. Cadman, Black. Messrs J. F. Cousins and James Black were elected life members of the association.
