BACONER EXPORTS
BRITISH ORDER INCREASED , MOST WELCOME DEVELOPMENT. When interviewed concerning the recent Government announcement that the British Ministry of Food had increased their export order for bacon pigs to 11,000 tons for the season, Mr W. A. Phillips, chairman of directors of the New Zealand Co-operative Pig Marketing Association, Ltd., stated that this was a most welcome development. In terms of the average weight of baconers produced when converted into Wiltshire sides this, together with baconers required for local consumption, would provide producers with an assured market for approximately 400,000 baconers pigs of an average weight cf 121 to 1501bs carcase weight. “This it is anticipated,” said Mr Phillips, “will suffice to cater for this season’s probable production and should ensure a stable market to producers at all slaughtering points -throughout New Zealand for this particular class of pig“With a continued normal export market for porker pigs which was also confidently anticipated for the current season, the industry would be placed in a very satisfactory position,” concluded Mr Phillips.
