WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
RONGOKOKAKO MEETING. COMPETITION WINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Rongokokako Women’s Institute was held recently, Mrs J. P. Sigvertsen presiding over a good attendance of members. Members stood in silence for a few moments out of respect to the late Mrs A. Cooper. Mrs F. Schorman gave a talk on how to preserve fruit and vegetables. A soldier’s letter was also read by her for which she was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. A collection was taken up on behalf of the Makogai Leper Fund, the sum of £1 2s 9d being obtained. Mesdames H. Winter and R. Farrow were appointed delegates to attend the half yearly Federation meeting at Konini. Competitions during the month resulted as follows: —Marmalade: Mrs Malton, 1; Mrs F. Baucke, 2. Jam jar of spring bulbs: Mrs F. Baucke, 1; Miss D. Nagel, 2. Best collection of peggy squares: Miss E. Sigvertsen, 1. Best bloom: Miss E. Sigvertsen (hyacinth), 1; Mrs H. Macky (pansy), 2. A skill test was won by Mrs J. Payne. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Malton and R. Farrow.
