LATEST JAPANESE THRUST IN CHINA ACCORDING TO CHUNGKING SPOKESMAN. HEAVY LOSSES SUFFERED BY INVADERS. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.35 a.m.) NEW YORK, September 23. According to a message from the Chungking representative of the United Press of America, a Chinese military spokesman claimed today that the Japanese drive towards Changsha had been stopped by Chinese troops 48 miles northward. The spokesman said the Japanese suffered 15,000 casualties and that 60,000 Japanese troops were surrounded. The Information Minister, Mr Wang Shih-chien, denied reports that peace overtures had been made to China.
