RIFLE SHOOTING
MASTERTON=OPAKI CLUB ANNUAL REPORT. ACTIVITIES WITH HOME GUARD. “Owing to the short supply of ammunition last year,” states the annual report of the Masterton-Opaki Rifle Club, “the club had to have a very much curtailed programme of shooting. On the whole the standard of shooting was excellent, C. Pickering being the club champion after a keen contest over all ranges. “The following members are serving in the N.Z. Expeditionary Forces: H. V. Donald, K. McCalmont, H. K. Smith, J. W. Curtin, and B. R. Jenkins. Last season the shooting finished up at a very early date and practically all the members joined the Home Guard and now form the backbone of the Snipers’ Platoon. They are now doing useful work in instructing the local Home Guard in shooting with the miniature rifle and will be able to give even better service in this direction when a supply of .303 ammunition becomes available. “The dub had a small supply of .303 ammunition and will probably again do a limited amount of shooting, so this combined with Home Guard activities means that members are likely to have a busy season ahead of them. It is highly desirable that all members take an active part in any club shooting as they will then be in touch with what is going on in the Home Guard and thus be able to give their service when required in helping others in their training of rifle shooting.” The report is signed by Mr H. H. Mawley, president.
