SAVAGE CLUB

KORERO ON SATURDAY - NIGHT. EXCELLENT PROGRAMME PRESENTED. An excellent programme was presented at a korero held on Saturday night by the Masterton Savage .Club. Following the Opening Ode and National Anthem, Big Chief F. L. Price installed Savage J. Harris as the chief of the evening. The orchestra,, under the ccnductorship of Savage C. W. Kerry rendered appropriate numbers. Savage J. Connell pleased with a bracket of songs. A sketch, “He's Lucky,’’ by Savages Harris and Pickering was followed by recitations by Past Chief Iggulden. Savages Bilderbeck and Flemming presented an amusing sketch, “Not at All,” and Savage J. Gallagher gave two well received violin solos. The first half concluded with a sketch, “Did I Do Wrong?" by Savaages Henry and Kennedy, and with the introduction of the visitors by Deputy Chief W. G. Perry.Among the visitors were Lieut. H. N. Taylor, R.N. (Portsmouth), Messrs C. S. Hill (Wellington), R. Smith (Castlepoint), J. Kent-Johnston (Little Theatre Society), H. J. Brass, H. G. Alexander, F. Shearer (R.S.A.), G. Barr (Soldiers’ Club) and W. White and C. E. Grey (Borough Council). An apology for absence was received from the Masterton County Council. The toast of the “visitors” was proposed by Big Chief Price and the Deputy Mayor, Councillor W. White, replied. The usual patriotic effort commenced the second half. Lieut. Taylor then gave an interesting talk on Singapore. Well received songs by Savage D. Couper, an amusing sketch, “He Can’t Take It,” by Savages Henry and Carstens and a bracket of numbers by the orchestra brought the proceedings to the closing Ode and the singing of the New Zealand National Anthem.
