MADE BY BRITISH BOMBERS WITH FIGHTER ESCORTS
Widely Extended Daylight Operations ENEMY OPPOSITION BRUSHED ASIDE balance of LOSSES MUCH AGAINST NAZIS LOXDOX, September 21. R.A.F. bombers, with a strong- fighter escort, took part in another series of daylight sweeps across the Channel today. A power station near Bethune was attacked. The British air forces brushed aside enemy opposition and 19 enemy fighters were destroyed. Twelve of our fighters did not return, but two of the pilots were later rescued. Not one of our bombers was lost. The bombers plastered the power station and when they left fires were burning- in many parts. Last night, despite bad weather, planes of the Bomber Command raided objectives in Berlin, Frankfurt and other places in north-west Germany. Targets in Frankfurt and Berlin were set on fire. Good results were also achieved in a raid on the docks at Ostend. Four British planes were lost.
