SHOW AFFAIRS
WAIRARAPA AND EAST COAST SOCIETY MEETING AT CARTERTON TODAY. RESULTS OF ANNUAL CANVASS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa and East Coast P. and A. So’ciety was held at Carterton today. The president, Mr J. A. McLeod, presided over a large attendance of members. The treasurer, Mr Geo. Brown, reported a credit balance at the Bank of New Zealand of £576 17s 7d. and £494 Is 8d at the P.O. Savings Bank, making a total credit of £lO7O 19s 7d. Receipts since last meeting totalled £204 14s lid. Accounts for £B3 3s 6d were passed The secretary, Mr. L. H. Smart, reported on. the result of the annual canvass as follows, figures for 1940 being given in parentheses: —Wellington, £155 15s (£157 3s 6d); Carterton, £llB 0s 6d (£ll2 18s 6d); Masterton, £46 8s (£43 18s 6d), “The results are exceptionally good," commented Mr McLeod. “The local figures are higher than last year's, and we have every reason to be pleased with the outcome.” A vote of thanks was accorded members who conducted the canvass. The secretary to the Governor-Gen-eral advised that Sir Cyril and Lady Newall would not be able to accept the society’s invitation to attend the Carterton Show on Thursday, October 30. Notification of show dates were received as follows:—Waimate, November 29; Stratford, November 14 and 15, 1941; Wanganui, November 1; Masterton, February 17 and February 18, Ram Fair, February 19 and February 20; Taranaki, March 13 and March 1. As a result of an inquiry received from the Masterton A. and P. Association it was decided to carry on with the Meat Board’s district lamb competition. The secretary of the Carterton subbranch of the Red Cross Society wrote thanking the society for its offer of the use of a room for V.A.D. work. The secretary of the Hawke's Bay A. and P. Association wrote enquiring if breeders of dairy cattle in the Wairarapa would show stock at the Hawke’s Bay show in view of the Palmerston North show being abandoned. The society’s assistance in this matter would be appreciated. No action was taken. Fifteen new members were elected. A considerable amount of routine •work in connection with the show next month was dealt with.
