ACCORDING TO GERMAN REPORT

Junction of Attacking Forces 120 Miles East of City FOUR RUSSIAN ARMIES SAID TO BE TRAPPED SOVIET SUCCESSES GAINED IN CENTRAL SECTOR LONDON, September 19. A Soviet communique states that fighting continues along the entire front. It has been especially intense round Kiev. A previous Moscow communique reported heavy fighting in this region during the last few days. The Germans claim to have joined forces at a point 120 miles east of Kiev, half-way between Kiev and Kharkov, by an advance from Chernigov in the north and Kremenchug' in the south. These operations are described in a special announcement from Hitler’s headquarters. The Germans claim that four Russian armies are encircled in the Kiev area and are being annihilated. New Russian successes are reported in the central sector. The German pressure on Leningrad is being increased, but the Russians are still fighting back with heavy counter-attacks. A correspondent says Russian picked troops are fighting with great ferocity. The Germans have given orders that positions must be taken at all costs and the fighting has been terrific. In one case fourteen German attacks were made against a single Russian trench.
