EKETAHUNA

BOROUGH WORK FOREMAN’S REPORT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The borough foreman reported, inter alia, as follows to the monthly meeting of the Borough Council in connection with work in the borough during the past month:—Owing to the wet weather it was not possible to carry out any patching on the sealed sections, but, with the improvement in the conditions, patching will be undertaken as soon as possible. It had not been possible previously to carry out the usual metal patching on the various streets through lack of metal supplies. A quantity has now been secured, and since the end of August, the whole of the roads in the borough have been patched. A section of. the trees at the Domain are being topped, and the whole of the hedges here should receive attention. The proposed work for the month will include the grubbing of trees at the cemetery, also the topping of the trees and the trimming of hedges; the cleaning of the sumps at the headworks and the maintenance of the pipeline; the patching of the sealing on the main highways and the cleaning out of drains and the placing of outlets where required will be carried out. A start will also be made on the construction of the Alfredton road footpath.

PLUNKET SOCIETY MEETING OF COMMITTEE.

At the monthly meeting of the committee of the Eketahuna sub-branch of the Plunket Society, Mrs E. C. Albrechtsen, president over a small attendance. Accounts amounting to £l7 14s were passed lor payment. The nurse's report, which was considered very satisfactory, was adopted. Concern was expressed at the manner in which the contributions in the box at the rooms had decreased, and it was decided to appeal to users of the rooms for a little more help. Arrangements were made in connection with the annual shop day appeal to be held on October 9. The committee gratefully acknowledges the following donations and subscriptions: —Putara ladies, £3 5s 6d; W.D.F.U., a parcel of baby’s clothes; Mrs L. Christie, 10s; Mesdames G. Drysdale, L. H. Gibson. Jenman, A. Gyde. Morrison, G. Higginson and W. Moss 5s each. Euchre Party and Dance. A very enjoyable euchre party and dance evening was held in the Putara schoolroom recently. The proceeds, amounting to £3 5s 6d, will be donated to the funds of the Eketahuna Plunket Society. The prizes for the euchre tournament were donated by Mesdames Gundersen and Christenson. . A competition for a box of chocolates, donated by Mrs Woodley, was won by Mr John Nagel. A home-made supper was dispensed by the ladies of the district.
