WORKERS FOR FARMS
NEW SCHEME IN OPERATION. GOOD RESULTS ACHIEVED. Proposals for the employment on farms of men engaged under Scheme 13 are being satisfactorily developed in the Wairarapa district. Mr W. G. Simpson, liaison officer, who visited Masterton today in connection with the scheme, said the results so far achieved were quite satisfactory. Both the farmers and the men appeared to be satisfied with the arrangements made in cases where workers had been made available for farm work. It was hoped that on Monday as many as ten men would be working on farms in the Wairarapa under this scheme —at Westmere, Wangaehu and Carterton. It was up to the farmers to make the fullest use of the scheme, said Mr Simpson. If they made their needs known, everything possible would be done to supply the men within a reasonable distance of town. The scheme was also in operation in the Wanganui area and where the men would be available it no doubt would be extended throughout the country. Full use was being made of existing bus services to transport the men to and from work and in other cases alternative schemes were being adopted. Mr Simpson added that he had received the fullest co-operation from farmers locally, especially Mr L. T. Daniell and the prospects for the whole scheme seemed to be good.
