EMERGENCY HOSPITAL

’ PROPOSED ESTABLISHMENT AT FEATHERSTON. ADMINISTRATION BY WAIRARAPA HOSPITAL BOARD. A decision to administer the proposed emergency hospital at the Anzac Hall, Featherston, for the Department of Health, was made at this afternoon’s meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board. The full cost, however, would be borne by the War Expenses Account. The Director-General of Health, Dr. M. H. Watt, wrote advising that the Department wished to ask the board if it would be prepared to run the proposed institution at, the Anzac Hall, Featherston, arising out of the abandonment of the Trentham racecourse as an emergency hospital. The equipment from Trentham would be transferred. The board’s Finance Committee recommended that: — (1) The War Expenses Account should meet: ' (a) All expenses in connection with alterations and renewals. (b) The cost of equipment that could not be transferred. (c) Rent and storage of furniture and insurance. (d) Total maintenance cost. (2) The board would administer the hospital for the Department, but it was not intended that any cost should be borne by the Wairarapa ratepayers. Following a brief discussion it was decided to adopt the committee’s recommendation and to advise the De-1 partment accordingly.
