TERRIFIC FIGHTING
SEVEN GREAT BATTLES RAGING ON RUSSIAN FRONT NEW HEIGHTS OF INTENSITY AND FEROCITY. RUSSIAN COUNTER-ATTACKS. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, at Noon.) LONDON, September 12. Terrific fighting continues on three main sectors of the Russian front. At least seven great battles, raging simutaneously, have carried the war to new heights of intensity and ferocity. The British United Press Berlin correspondent says the Germans admit that Marshal Voroshilov had launched twin counter-attacks across the rivers Luga, south of Leningrad, and Volkhov, south-east of the city. The “Red Star’s” correspondent at the front reports that Russian units forced a crossing at the lower Dnieper, at four points, and recaptured an island in the region of Dnepropetrovsk, inflicting heavy casualties against German and Rumanian troops. Other Russians- are advancing westwards of the recaptured village of Olkha. The “Pravda” states that a large scale battle is raging in the Polesie area, westwards of the central front and the Germans are sustaining heavy casualties.
