IN MIDDLE EAST
SLIGHT ACTIVITY AT TOBRUK ATTEMPT TO RAID SUEZ CANAL ZONE. ONE ENEMY PLANE SHOT DOWN. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.30 a.m.) RUGBY, September 12. A communique issued from British Headquarters at Cairo states that both at Tobruk and in the frontier area there was some exchange of shellfire. A R.A.F. Middle East communique states: “During last night enemy aircraft attempted to raid a locality in the Suez Canal zone. A number of bombs were dropped but no damage was caused to military property or shipping. R.A.F. night fighters quickly engaged the enemy and as a result one raider was shot down in flames and became a total wreck. Others were intercepted and are believed to have been damaged.”
