RAIDS ON TURIN

HEAVIEST VET IN NORTHERN ITALY ROYAL ARSENAL THE MAIN OBJECTIVE. LARGE FIRES BREAK OUT. <Received This Day. 8.55 a.m.) LONDON. September 11. Many heavy bombers participated in a raid on Italy, which was the heaviest yet made on Northern Italy. The main objective was the Royal Arsenal at Turin. Large fires were left burning. The raid on Turin was a heavy one. some of Britain's largest bombers taking part. Besides the arsenal, factories and railways were also bombed from as low as 2000 feet. There were terrific explosions. One crew counted 34 fires. Flashes from explosions could be seen and the fires started could still be seen from the French side of the Alps by the crews of planes returning to Britain. Four of our planes are missing. The Rome radio admitted the raid on Turin and also stated that Genoa had been attacked, while Messina <in Sicily) had also been raided.
