CARTERTON
PLUNKET SOCIETY CARTERTON BRANCH MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Carterton. branch of the Plunket Society was held on Monday, when there were present Mesdames Steel, Callender, Dye, Armstrong, Udy, Montgomery and Trapp. The nurse reported for August: New cases, mothers 6, babies 4, one artificially fed. Visits to homes, new cases 10, old cases 58, pre-school children 21. visits to rooms, adults 93, babies 87, pre-school children 14. The general health and progress of the children is satisfactory. Mr and Mrs W. H. Booth advised that Daffodil Day would be Saturday, September 20 and arrangements were made accordingly. The secretary reported that a grant of £45 had been received from the T. G. Macarthy Trust. The matter of supporting delegates ,to the, general conference in Wellington on October 15 and 16 was left in the hands of Mesdames Wells and Trapp. Accounts amounting to £2l 5s 5d were passed for payment.
DAFFODIL DAY FUNDS FOR PLUNKET SOCIETY. The annual “Daffodil Day” will take place at Mr and Mrs W. Henry Booth's grounds, “Middle Run,” Carterton, on Saturday, September 20. The price of admission is 2s 6d, including bulbs and afternoon tea. Visitors will have the opportunity within reason of helping themselves to bunches of flowers. As the whole of the proceeds will go towards the funds of the Carterton Plunket Society there should be a large attendance. POLITICAL ADDRESS MR J. J. MAHER TO VISIT CARTERTON. ,The .National candidate for Wairarapa, Mr J. J. Maher, will address members and supporters of the party in the Masonic Hall, Carterton, tomorrow at 8 p.m. | . X HOME GUARD SUCCESSFUL TRAINING. The B Company of the Carterton Home Guard has now spent three consecutive parade . nights in small arms training and a very good percentage of the members have passed most of the elementary tests in aiming, night setting, trigger pressing, snap shooting and rapid fire. One of the final tests is target indication, which has to be taken in the field. The company will parade .on Monday at the Showgrounds, Carterton, for the outdoor tests. It is essential that every guardsman should attend this parade in order to qualify, as all test returns from the Company have to be in the hands of Battalion Headquarters by September 30 and there may not be another opportunity for a daylight parade. There was a full attendance of members of the Home Guard at the weekly drill at the King’s Theatre last evening. . Physical training, signalling, drill and other manoeuvres were carried cue. Cheese Consignments. Large consignments of cheese were forwarded to Wellington from the cheese factories in the Carterton disinc; yesceraay. The Dalefield factory is working eight vats of milk,, and other factories are equally busy. Personal.
Mr R. D. Jackson, of Carterton, has returned after attending a dental conference at Palmerston North.
