ALLIED TERMS
ACCEPTED BY IRANIAN GOVERNMENT AXIS NATIONALS TO BE HANDED OVER. BASIS OF CO-OPERATION ESTABLISHED. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.40 a.m.) RUGBY, September 9. The Foreign Office announces that the British Minister at Tehe-. ran this morning received a Note from the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs stating that the Iranian Government accepted the terms put forward by the British and Soviet Governments. The terms include the closing of the German, Italian, Rumanian and Hungarian Legations, and the handing over of German nationals in Iran to the British and Soviet authorities. The hope is expressed in authoritative circles in London that the acceptance of the terms will prove to be an indication that the Iranians finally understand that their interests lie in full co-operation with the Allies on such a basis and in the wider sphere of collaboration, which it already recognised by many far-seeing Persians lies ahead of them. There is no doubt that the British Government wishes the country to be more prosperous and desires to help it to develop its resources and raise its standard of living. An earlier message stated: — Some of the peace terms imposed on Iran were revealed in London tonight. They include: (1) All German residents in Iran must be handed over to the Allies. (2) The German Legation and all documents therein must be at the disposal of the Allies. (3) Britain and Russia must have unquestioned control of all waterways 'and irrigation works in Iran.
