Marshal Timoshenko’s army has not only routed eight enemy divisions, but has occupied Nelnia and over 50 villages. Russian artillery played a vital part in the victory. The area is described as a virtual mincing machine for German regiments. The Germans repeat last night’s claim to have closed the ring round Leningrad. The Moscow radio states that fierce fighting continues all along the front. In the Battle for Odessa very heavy losses have been inflicted on four more Rumanian divisions. In the last few days the Rumanians have lost more than 20,000 officers and men. The offensive against Odessa, it is stated, has been brought to a standstill. Russian guerillas have had fresh successes. In one instance they penetrated a town and blew up a munition dump.
