RUGBY FOOTBALL
WAIRARAPA UNION REDMOND CUP COMPETITION. FINAL AVON BY CARTERTON. Weather conditions spoilt what otherwise would probably have been a good exhibition of football on the Carterton Showgrounds on Saturday. I when Carterton and Featherston met in the final for the Redmond Cup. On the day Carterton were the better team and won the match by 6 points to nil. In the first spell a penalty goal was kicked by M. Hurley for Carterton. During the second half R. Warrington scored a try for Carterton which was not converted. This game completed the Wairarapa competitions for the season. The Carterton. seniors won all the games played by them except one against Greytown. which ended in a draw. Mr W. Grantham was the referee in the game on Saturday. The annual Married v Single match played by the Masterton Club on Saturday was won by the married men by 6 points to nil. Mr S. Fellingham was referee.
IN OTHER CENTRES
Wellington.—Club Rugby for the 1941 season was brought to a Conclusion in Wellington on Saturday. Heavy rain, both before and during the games robbed them of a great deal of interest. Army had much the better of their contest with Athletic and avenged their first round defeat, but the result had no bearing on the championship. Senior first division results were: — Army 6, Athletic 5; Wellington 0, St. Patrick’s College 0.8. 0; Marist Bros. 0.8. 11, Hutt 6; Petone 6, Oriental 0; College Old Boys 12, Eastbourne 6; University 12, Poneke 3; Johnsonville 9, Air Force 0. Christchurch.—Varsity 3, Linwood 0; Technical 7, Army 0: New Brighton 12. Air Force 6. Senior reserve: Athletic 17, Christchurch 9; Albion 15, Godley Head 0; Southern beat Sunnyside by default. Dunedin.—University A 21, Union 11; Zingari-Richmond 25. Alhambra 3: Pirates 21. University B nil; Kaikorai 18. Taieri 6: Southern 8. Dunedin 5. Auckland.—The Auckland representative Rugby team won its annual fixture with the Hawke's Bay fifteen al Eden Park on Saturday, 19-9. The contest was closely fought in the first spell when Hawke's Bay were playing with the wind, but after the interval the advantage lay with Auckland. The match was held up by numerous, stoppages, two replacements being required by both sides. An Auckland player. H. Grant, was ordered off. . I
