WELCOME HOME GATHERING AT PARKVALE. (“Times-Age” Special.) On Saturday evening the Parkvale Hall was crowded, the occasion being a welcome to Private C. Bliss who has been invalided home after taking part in the battles of Greece and Crete. After the evacuation from Crete Private Bliss became critically ill and was for a considerable time in a hospital in Egypt. The time was spent in dancing to splendid music provided by Mrs V. J. Ashton’s orchestra. Extras were played by Messrs Morris (piano accordeon) and Te Whaiti. Mr D. Jensen was M.C. A lucky spot waltz was won by Master R. Williams and Miss June Williams, and a Monte Carlo dance by Misses Ireland and Hansen. Mr C. Jensen, chairman of the Parkvale District Soldiers’ Social Committee, extended a very warm welcome home to Private C. Bliss. He trusted that Private Bliss’s leave from war services would have the effect of completely restoring him to health and strength. On behalf of the committee and settlers he asked Private Bliss to accept a well filled envelope. . Private Bliss suitably returned his thanks. . , Supper was provided by a ladies committee.
