SAVAGE CLUB
KORERO ON SATURDAY NIGHT. ORCHESTRAL & OTHER ITEMS. An enjoyable korero was held by the Masterton Savage Club on Saturday 1 night. The orchestra (under Savage C. W. Kerry) opened the proceedings with the playing of the Ode and the National Anthem. After Big Chief F. Price had installed Chief Scribe F. Pickering as Chief of the evening, the orchestra continued with a bracket of greatly appreciated numbers, “Bouquet” overture and “Sunshine Waltz.” Two amusing sketches were presented by Savages H. M. Smith (in charge), S. J. Barber, W. G. Perry and J. A. Kennedy. Very much enjoyed musical items were given by Past Chief Iggulden and Savages Maxted and Watson. An impromptu debate “That wives should always be taken on holidays” was held, those taking part being Savages Wilton, Rayner, Heath (affirmative), and Savages Couper, Hancock and Robertson (negative). Savage Sanson gave ah interesting and amusing talk on fishing. During supper the toast of “The Visitor” was replied to by Mr J. H. Wagg, of Akaroa. The second half of the programme was mainly occupied with an amusing mystery play, “Any Body?” the actors being Savages Barber, Bilderbeck, Carstens, Smith, Flemming. Harris, Henry, Kennedy and Russell The proceedings were brought to a finish by the orchestra rendering “The Brownie’s Story” and “Military March” concluding with the Closing Ode and New Zealand Anthem.
