THREE BEVERAGES. Egg Non: Beat one egg yolk and one teaspoonful of sugar z together until light. Add the egg white beaten up stiffly, stir well and pour into a glass. Add a little vanilla and fill the glass with milk, stirring well. Oatmeal Gruel: Take one cup of oatmeal, 4 cups boiling water, 1 .teaspoonful salt, and some milk. Add the oatmeal and salt to the boiling water and cook for 10 minutes. Then cook in a steamer for three hours. Strain and dilute with milk. Barley Water: Take 2-4ozs barley according to thickness desired, 1 quart water, 1-1 oz sugar, 1 lemon. Place the barley in a saucepan with the water and simmer gently for an hour or more. The lemon may be peeled thinly and the rind added during the simmering process. Strain, add sugar and lemon juice.
