SURPRISE MOVE
RUSSIAN LANDING MADE NEAR PETSAMO AXIS FORCES SCATTERED. SOVIET DESTROYERS OPEN FIRE. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) STOCKHOLM, September 5. Under cover of their Arctic fleet the Russians are reported to have landed forces behind the German and Finnish lines in the Petsamo area and claim that already they have cleaned up the coast to within a few miles of Petsamo. The landing was organised from Archangel and completely surprised the Axis forces, who fled when Russian destroyers opened fire.
