STATE THEATRE
“POT O’ GOLD.” Incorporating the famous American weekly radio programme, the film “Pot o’ Gold,” released through United Artists, will be shown tonight at the State Theatre. The picture shows how a “Pot o’ Gold” programme is presented. The story is concerned with the efforts of a young man to enliven a notoriously dull radio programme sponsored by his uncle. His efforts meet with little success until the appearance of an impecunious dance band which the nephew hires to take part in the programme. At the conclusion of the session Paulette Goddard, who plays the role of a pretty young girl assisting the band, announces that in future 1000 dollars will be given away at the conclusion of every programme. This makes the session famous overnight. James Stewart is cast as the impulsive nephew of the eccentric millionaire, and the dance band is represented by Horace Heidt and his Musical Knights. The film is the first Hollywood production of James Roosevelt, son of the United States President. The featurettes include a special Ministry of Information issue devoted to New Zealand troops on their return from the Crete campaign; the New Zealand Prime Minister in the Far East and a “travelcade in technicolour," - Hong Kong, Britain's fortress in the Far East.
