PRISONERS OF WAR
ANNOUNCEMENTS BY ENEMY RADIO STATIONS. QUESTION IN THE HOUSE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A request that facilities might be granted for rebroadcasting short-wave transmissions from Germany and Italy during periods in which the names of New Zealand prisoners of war were announced was made by Mr F. L. Frost (New Plymouth)-' in an urgent question to the Minister of Defence, Mr Jones, on behalf of the Speaker, Mr Barnard, when the House of Representatives met at 10.30 o’clock today. Mr Jones said the matter had been considered but the quality of the reception was sometimes so poor that the proper names of soldiers would be of doubtful accuracy, which might result in distress not only to next-of-kin but others who might think they were related. The House went into committee of supply for the consideration of the Estimates and passed the Audit Department vote 0f£43,100 without discussion.
