Wairarapa Times-Age THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 1941. THE WAR ANNIVERSARY.
New Zealand, with entirely inconsiderable exceptions, will'support whole-heartedly the resolution in which the House of Representatives yesterday, on the occasion of the second anniversary of the declaration of war, recorded, on behalf of the people of the Dominion, its fervent devotion to the ideals of liberty and justice for which the British Commonwealth and its Allies are fighting and its high admiration of the splendid achievements of our fighting forces. The value of such a declaration of course depends on the extent to which it. is based on a" genuine determination to let nothing stand in the way of a united war effort. In the encouraging but critical phase of conflict which has now opened, the need of unitv is more than ever paramount. An unimpeded exercise of the best energies of this country, and of all those with which it is associated. is needed, not only in order that the war may be won, but in order that the difficult and perplexing problems which will arise when the war is over may be attacked with purposeful energy and resolution. With so much al stake, this surely is a time in which Io make an end of minor and sectional differences and to forget whatever animosities they may have occasioned.
