SALE AT ADDINGTON PRICES MOSTLY FIRMER. KEEN DEMAND FOR PIGS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, September 3. At the Addington market entries generally were rather small today, | and prices firmer for most of the ma-! jor sections of stock. About 1100 store! sheep were penned, including some! lines of high quality. Values for ewes ■' were fully up to those of last week.! The best price of the day was 32s 3d! for outstanding two-tooth half-bred ewes in lamb to Border Leicester. I Other pens of six-tooth and eight-tooth 1 sold at 25s 9d and 28s. The sale was the best of the season for this class of ewe. Ewes and lambs all counted, made up to IGs 2d. A few prime spring lambs realised 37s to 41 s. One lamb brought 475. Another small entry of fat sheep comprised 3200 head, which included sheep from the North Island and Southland. The sale was keen throughout, wethers being one shilling a head better until the concluding stages, when there was a further hardening. Ewes sold slightly easier, particularly heavy sorts. Best, wethers made from 40s to 445, with pens of tops to 48s, and medium to good 31s to 355. Good ewes sold at 30s with tops to 355. Ewes maintained last week’s values. A small entry of 400 good quality fat ’ cattle met with firm sale throughout. Good medium weights were up 20s a I head on last week, other classes being I firm. Prime heavy weight steers made | from £lB to £2l, tops to £24 17s 6d, | medium weight prime £l4 to £l6 15s. | Best beef made from 45s to 47s 6d per | IOOIbs., prime heavy 41s to 44s 6d, me- g dium down to 37s 6d, inferior down to I 31s. I In the fat pig section there was a keen sale until the concluding stages for porkers, which ranged from £2 5s | 6d to £3 6s 6d or an average of 7.? d | to 9Jd per lb. Baconers ranged from | £3 7s 6d to £5 9s 6d, an average per | lb. of 61d to 71d. I
MASTERTON SALE SHEEP BRING LATE RATES. CATTLE MEET WITH APPROVAL. In connection with their Masterton sale yesterday the Associated Auctioneers report almost a total clearance of cattle and sheep which were offered to a fair bench of buyers. Sheep sold at prices consistent with last week’s market, and the cattle, which came forward in very good condition, met with approval from the buyers. There was only a small section of fat cattle, the greater part consisting of yearling steers and heifers. Messrs Andrew Bros., topped the prices for P.A. and Hereford yearling steers at £5 14s, and yearling Hereford heifers on account of the same vendors made £4 17s. The following were the prices realised: — Sheep: Fat ewes (heavy), 19s 9d, 19s; fat wethers, 29s 4d, 30s; fat ewes, 17s, 18s 3d; fat shorn wethers, 21s 6d; fat shorn ewes, 13s, Ils 6d; fat maiden ewes (6-th.), 235; S.D. ewes, 19s; fat hoggets, 19s 2d, 21s lOd, 235. Stores: Woolly wether hoggets, 21s lOd; shorn wether hoggets, 14s 7d; b.f. hoggets, 20s 6d; ewes with lambs at foot, 13s 3d, 14s 6d, 15s (all counted). Cattle:—Fats: Bullocks, £l3 15s; P.A. cows, £9 4s, £9 11s; cows exdairy, £3 Ils, £4 2s; Hereford cows, £7 15s; forward P.A. cows, £4 4s, £4 16s. Stores: 2-yr. P.A. steers, £7 15s; yearling P.A. steers, £5 ss, £5 14s; yearling Hereford steers, £5 14s; yearling P.A. heifers, £3 17s, £4 4s; yearling Hereford heifers, £4 17s, culls £3 15s; yearling steers (culls), £3 19s. Pigs: Weaners, 16s, 21s.
PAHIATUA SALE PRICES FOR DAIRY STOCK INCREASE. SHEEP MAKE LATE RATES. The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-op-erative Distributing Co., Ltd., report as follows on their Pahiatua sale:—A large entry of dairy stock came forward, and was offered to a large attendance of the public. The improvement in the weather was appreciated by the dairy farmer, and realisations in this section advanced on our previous sales. A medium entry of sheep and pigs were yarded, and sales here were on a par with late rates. Quotations: —Dairy springing cows (good), £ll ss, £ll, £lO 15s to £9; medium, £9, £8 15s, £8 10s; poorer - sorts, £8 to £6; three-quarter cows, £6 to £4 10s; empty cows, £3 12s 6d; springing heifers (good), £lO, £9 10s to £8 10s; others, £B, £7 17s 6d to £6 10s. Sheep: Forward ewes, 23s to 15s 6d; fat hoggets, 23s lOd, 23s 6d to 22s Id; wether hoggets, 20s; wether hoggets (small), 16s. Pigs: Weaners, good, 19s, 18s, 17s to 16s; others, 14s to 12s; sows to farrow, £4 to £3; porkers, 30s 6d, 275.
