“We are told by some kindly-mean-ing souls that really we ought not to dislike the Germans, for we are not fighting them but only a few wicked Nazis. The less we hear of this sort of stuff the better,” said Captain Harold Balfour, M.P., Under-Secretary of State for Air, in a recent address. “Let us stop fooling about with the idea that those who live under the Nazi regime can be divided into the sheep and the goats —the nice and the nasty. For whoever lend themselves, either willingly or by force, to the Nazi rule must bear their share of responsibility for Nazidom —Hess included —and I hope that in due course we shall make certain that their responsibility is accounted for to the full. Though we must look for a post-war Europe which includes a German race, I hope we shall take precautions to see that the virus of domination and infection of evil which has for the last hundred years periodically erupted and spread from within Germany will be sterilised.”
