CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB STAKHS FOR METROPOLITAN MEETING. £5,000 SUBSCRIBED TO WAR LOAN (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, September 2. At its, meeting today the committee of the Canterbury Jockey Club approved the programme for the metropolitan meeting in November. Stakes and conditions will be the same as last year, total stakes for the four days ■ being £16,300. The club will subscribe £5OOO to the Government’s £10,000,000 war loan. This was decided on by the committee today. CARTERTON RACING CLUB SPRING MEETING. NOMINATIONS CLOSE TONIGHT. (By “THE GRAFTER.”) Nominations for the Carterton Racing Club’s spring meeting at Clareville on Saturday, September 13, will close with the secretary, Mr H. Mortenson, at 9 o’clock tonight. The handicaps will be declared on September 8, and acceptances close on Tuesday, September 9, at 9 p.m. The club is making a special effort i to ensure that the meeting will be one of the most successful held in the his- | tory of racing in the Wairarapa. The club is blessed with an excellent band of stewards who by their loyal efforts have been able to keep the club's flag flying despite the adverse conditions which have been encountered. The club is fortunate in having such a capable secretary as Mr H. Mortenson, whose ability in an official capacity has been repeatedly demonstrated.. The racing public owe a debt of gratitude to the club for the loyal manner in which it has continued its operations despite the many difficulties which presented themselves from time to time, and should respond by making the attendance on Saturday week at Clareville a record one.
