The recruits were given clothes and kit at the barracks. They were then paraded for inspection by the sergeant. “Any complaints?” asked the sergeant. “Yes,” spoke up one recruit. “What is it?” “It’s my trousers.” “What’s wrong with them? I can’t see anything the matter with them.” “Perhaps you can’t see anything wrong with them, but I can feel something wrong. They’re chafing me under my arms.”
