NAZI DEFENCES
STUDIED FROM THE AIR BY BRITISH ANTI-AIRCRAFT OFFICERS. SOME CONCLUSIONS DRAWN. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, September 2. British anti-aircraft officers have flown in recent raids over Germany for the purpose of comparing defensive tactics before the winter shooting really begins, says the “Daily Mail.” They watched anti-aircraft fire, studied the disposition of guns and paid particular attention to the way in which German searchlights co-operate with night fighters. Their main conclusions are: Firstly, that the Germans throw up more fire than the British in the defence of key cities, but it is extravagant and lacking in the scientific precision which Britain aims to achieve during the lull; secondly, British radio location is ahead of Germany’s; thirdly, Germany so far has produced no startling defence surprise and German antiaircraft units have no new technique, whereas London’s gun strength has tremendously increased and many more searchlights will be employed in co-operation with night fighters.
