AUSTRALIAN RACES
EVENTS AT RANDWICK KINDERGARTEN BEATEN, WIGGINS SAID TO BE OUT-GENERALLED. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, August 31. High Caste won the Warwick Stakes at Randwick on Saturday' by a narrow margin from Freckle, with the New Zealand champion Kindergarten and Lucrative a dead-heat for third. Keen observers consider that Kindergarten’s jockey Wiggins was out-generalled by thg Sydney riders. They described the race difficulties which met Wiggins as a “tactical blockade.”
Kindergarten was first stopped from coming round the field and was then pocketed when he tried to go through the field on the rails at a vital stage of the race. Wiggins denied that the defeat was due to the pocketing of his mount. He said Kindergarten was unable to cope with the early speed shown by his rivals. He would do a lot better when raced over a distance. Wiggins was asked to explain to the stewards why he checked Kindergarten at three furlongs. He said his mount had to be checked to avoid the heels of Freckles, due to being pocketed. Kindergarten’s next race will be the Chelmsford Stakes on September’ 13, when he is expected to do better over the longer distance. High Caste has now won £31,020 in stakes. Serenata did not get a place in the Glenlee Handicap. The rider of Yaralla, McMenamin. was suspended for two months for causing interference in the Hobartville Stakes, won by the brilliant filly All Love, who cost 160 guineas and has won £9OOO in six races. McMenamin will miss many important riding engagements. Interest in the appearance of Kindergarten resulted in an attendance of 36,000 which broke all records for the curtain-raiser to the big spring meeting.
