BRITISH SUBMARINES

NOTABLE SUCCESSES IN MEDITERRANEAN ENEMY SUPPLY SHIPS SUNK. CRUISER AND OTHER VESSELS HIT BY TORPEDOES. LONDON, August 31. An Admiralty communique reports further operations by British submarines in the Mediterranean. A week ago an attack was made on a squadron of three Italian cruisers escorted by destroyers and planes. A torpedo fired at a cruiser caused a big explosion, but a violent coun-ter-attack prevented the submarine commander from ascertaining the results. The communique also says that two enemy supply ships and two schooners were sunk. Hits were also registered on a liner and an Italian tanker.
