Mr T. B. Clark, Superintendent of the Masterton Fire Brigade, has resumed duties following his absence on annual leave. The death occurred last week of a well-known Auckland sportsman, Mr Benjamin M. Myers. He was the eldest son of the late Mr and Mrs Luis Myers, and a brother of Colonel Bernard Myers, London, and Mrs R. Coleman, . Auckland, and of the late Sir Arthur Myers and Mr Leo Myers, London. Dr. Arundel Orchard, of the NeAV South Wales State Conservatorium of Music, Sydney, who came to New Zealand to conduct practical examinations for Trinity College of Music, London, In place of Mr A. Mann (.London), who died shortly after his arrival in Auckland, has been taken ill, and it is reported he is unable to continue his work. Pilot Officer John Francis Hunt has met his death in Singapore as a result of a flying accident. He was 25 years old, being the son of Mr and Mrs R. E. Hunt, Vauxhall Road, Devonport. Mrs J. A. Hunt, Palmerston North, is a sister. Pilot Officer Hunt was well known in Palmerston North, Levin and New Plymouth. He leaves a widow and one child, a daughter. At the North Island Motor Union Conference at Napier on Saturday, the following officers were elected for the ensuing " year:—President, Mr J. H. Edmundson (Napier); vice-presidents, Messrs A. Grayson (Auckland), W. T. Guild (Taranaki); council, Messrs F. G. Farrell (Auckland), W. A. O’Callaghan (South Taranaki), P. D. England (Wanganui), W. H. Brown (Manawatu), R. W. Roydhouse (Wairarapa), E. Palliser (Wellington), Dr. W. D. Fitzgerald (Hawke’s Bay). The Wanganui branch of the New Zealand National Party has chosen Mr Nowell Montgomerie Izard to be the party’s candidate at the next general election. He will contest the Wanganui seat against the present member, Sergeant J. B. F. Cotterill. Three nominations were recei\ 7 ed and selection was by a ballot. Other nominees were Mrs A. K. McLean and Mr W. A. Veitch, a former M.P. for Wanganui and Cabinet Minister.
