STATE THEATRE
“DOWN ARGENTINE WAY.” Spectacle and gorgeous colouring are the main features of 20th CenturyFox’s musical comedy "Down Argentine Way,” one of the attractions to be screened tonight at the. State Theatre. Betty Grable makes a successful return to the screen in this production and her role has been carefully handled to reflect the young actress’s own beauty and vitality. Appearing for the first time is Carmen Miranda, a Brazilian singer and dancer, whose brilliant performance is one of the highlights of the film. The resplendent technicolour emphasises the beauty of Buenos Aires, where the story has its setting. Colourful race meetings, peaceful stud farms, fiestas, old Spanish buildings and other vividly picturesque scenes are presented as a background for good comedy. Other noted names in the cast include Charlotte Greenwood, J. Carrol Naish, Henry Stephenson, Katharine Aldridge, Leonid Kinskey and Chris-Pin Martin. Rhythmic, lavish, and gay, “Down Argentine Way” is irresistible entertainment. There is an excellent supporting programme.
