NOW BEING MADE IN IRAN
Both Ends of Main Railway Held By Allies SOME INDICATIONS OF GERMAN INFLUENCE MORE FOOD SUPPLIES SENT IN LONDON, August 29. No opposition has been offered to the Allied troops in Iran since yesterday’s cease-fire order. One incident, however, shows that German influence is still at work in some parts of the country. A communique from Simla reports that an Iranian commander at one centre offered to surrender by September 1, but Iranian prisoners revealed that Germans were still advising the Iranians on defensive plans. The British commander thereupon insisted on the withdrawal starting immediately. Two anti-aircraft guns were captured. They were of the latest type made by the Skoda Works. Both the British and Russian forces continue their advance. The Russians are more than a third, of the way to the capital, Teheran. Both ends of the Trans-Iranian railway are in Allied hands. Seven hundred tons of wheat have been sent into the area occupied by the British to relieve the food shortage.
