FRIENDS OF BRITAIN
♦ NUMEROUS IN FRANCE PEOPLE WILL BE READY. WHEN TIME FOR LIBERATION COMES. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, August 28. “Everyone in unoccupied France and almost everyone in occupied France is solidly pro-British, declared M. Andrew Diethelm, who was secretary to the former Minister, M. Mandel, and who has escaped from France. He added that the French people rejoice over British victories and do not buy the newspapers when the news is bad.
“The people around Petain are either traitors or those who thought that Germany had won the war and collaboration was the only hope,” he said. “In the meantime the French are resisting the Germans passively till the time when they can actively assist to overthrow the aggressor. “There is no organised opposition, but each locality has its leader and when the time arrives they will be ready.”
