FIRST OF FLOTILLA
■ " V" — MINE-SWEEPER HINAU LAUNCHED CEREMONY IN AUCKLAND. LARGE ATTENDANCE OF PUBLIC. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND. This Day. H.M. mine-sweeper Hinau, the first New Zealand-built naval vessel, was successfully launched today and towed to her fitting-out berth, with a of hinau at her bow. The ceremony was performed by Mrs D. G. Sullivan, breaking a bottle of New Zealand wine, naming the ship and stating: "God bless you and all who serve in you.” There was a large attendance of the public and representatives of the Services. Addresses were given by Mr Hendry Luke, Chairman of the Harbour Board, Mr Allum. the Mayor, Captain E. Rotheram, representing the Navy, Mr D. G. Sullivan and Mr H. Seagar, the contractor. Mr Sullivan said two more of the same type of composite vessels were being built in Auckland and would be ready for launching in a fortnight. In addition, nine steel mine-sweepers were being constructed, five at Port Chalmers, three at Auckland, and one at Wellington.
