Easy Successes Gained by R.A.F. NO RESISTANCE MET BY RUSSIANS ACTIVE MEASURES Tp RELIEVE DESPERATE FOOD SITUATION LONDON, August 27. Allied forces pushing on into the heart of the oilfields m Iran have taken with them food for the hungry Iranian people. There is a desperate food situation in Iran, especially in the south-west oilfields, owing to the authorities selling practically the whole of the grain harvest, as well as tea and sugar, to Germany. Riots have occurred in many places. An official statement in London says that 605 tons of wheat were sent over the border from Irak and more will be sent The R.A.F., which is supporting the troops in their advance, also successfully attacked gun positions and troop concentrations. More pamphlets have also been dropped. During the operations on Monday, four Iranian aircraft, and not three as previously stated, were destroyed. In an attack on an aerodrome yesterday, direct hits were obtained on a hangar and on a plane. At least six Iranian planes have been destroyed without British loss. The British force advancing from Basra has penetrated at least 40 miles into the oilfield country. Three hundred miles further away, another force is advancing through mountainous country. In Northern Iran, the three-headed Russian attack has penetrated to a depth of about 120 miles right acioss the area from Turkey to the Caspian Sea. So far the Russians have not met with any opposition. ,
