Mohammed Schayesteh, Iranian Minister, after a conference with the Assistant-Secretary of State (Mr Sumner Welles) said the British and Russian allegations that German agents were active in Iran, were mere invasion pretexts. A Berlin spokesman said Britain alone was guilty “of this assault against a small nation. She had handed over yet another country to Bolshevism.” FOOD SUPPLIES TAKEN IN BY BRITISH FORCES. The Indian and British forces entering Iran are taking wheat and other essentials for the populace because the Axis demands have seriously depleted Iranian stocks and have already produced poverty and hunger. India has already sent 60,000 tons of wheat. It is estimated that there are 3.000 Indians in Iran, mainly on the oilfields and in the Meshed area.
