MATAHIWI
SOLDIER ENTERTAINED AN ENJOYABLE GATHERING. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a large gathering of settlers of the district at the Matahiwi School when Corporal Max Jenkins was the guest of honour. Cards and dancing were held and the function proved most successful. The music for the dancing was supplied by Mrs Te Tail’s Orchestra and the duties of M.C. were capably carried out by Mr Allan Amundsen. . Mr F. J. Clarke, .on behalf of the settlers, presented Corporal Jenkins with a hold-all. He wished him the best of luck and a safe return. The recipient suitably acknowledged the gift. A Monte Carlo waltz competition was won by Mrs Linton and Mr R. Findlay, and an “old time” waltz competition, which proved most entertaining, was won by Mrs L. Sutton and Mr J. Evans. A capable ladies' committee served supper.
